The vatican museum collection pen

The graceful style of this writing instrument has been speciallt designed in commemoration of the Raphael Stanze in Vatican City, built bz the supreme pontiff of the Renaissance, Julius II, as the place where solemn signing ceremonies took place. The Stanze, or Rooms, were decorated in the early 16th century with frescoes by Raphael that reflect the ideals of the humanist movement of the time: justice, beauty and truth.
This commemmorative collection pen reproduces the design that adorns the ceiling of the Stanza della Segnatura, liberally translated as the Room of the Signature, where since the time of Julius II, popes have signed official decrees, papal bulls and legislation that would affect the course of western history.
Today the Stanzo of Raphael are part of the Vatican Museum and are visited by millions of visitors each year; even on the threshold of the Third Millenium, their frescoes still inspire wonder and admiration. The Vatican Museums Collecition Pen wishes to capture this bit of art and history in the palm of the writer’s hand.

This certificate guarantees that each pen is made in gold and silver plate and hand enamelled. All the components, expect thase subject to normal wear are guaranteed against production faults.

Title: the fountain pen is individually numbered from 1 to 2000 in each color version to guarantee the owner its originality and exclusiveness. The number is hand engraved on the ring of the pen’s cap.

Suggestions: This fountain pen model may be used after the ink holder has been filled with high quality ink. The ink holder is filled by rotating the upper pin first downward then upward while holding the pen inside the ink bottle. The pen may also write with the universal ink cartridges such as Pelikan. The pen is made in Germany and has been specially crafted from iridium in the best of German tradition.

THE GROTESQUES - Three fountain pens limited to 2,000 pieces each from the Vatican Museums.

The latest addition to the Vatican Museum Collection Pen series is the limited-edition Le Grottesche (the grotesques) to be launched 11 September at the Vatican Museums. Le Grottesche, produced directly by the Vatican Museums to a design by Museo Vivo, are distributed in Italy by T.M.A. Pen Diffusion. The element that makes these pens so distinctive is the reproduction on the barrel and cap of decorative work from the ceilings of the rooms of Pope Julius II by Raphael. These decorations, executed by the Florentine master from 1508, draw their inspiration from the grotesques-ornamental motifs that decorated the Baths of Titus (Domus Aurea), discovered while Raphael was working on the rooms. The collection comprises three finishes with each limited to 2, 000 pieces. The pens with serial numbers 1-600 have been reserved for sale as a trio, each with the same serial number. Mr. Riccardi from the Vatican Museums points out that "since the pens are made directly by us we can reproduce images from artworks held by the museums. Like all our products, a part of the proceeds from sales will go toward refurbishing the museums. The Vatican Museum Collection Pen is not only connected with the Jubilee year in 2000, and it's quite likely that more pens will be produced in the future. Each of the three pens in the Le Grottesche collection is available for 1,500,000 lire.

Shape and materials.

The beauty of this pen with its linear design lies in its Raphael-inspired decorations. These geometric and floral designs in precious metals adorn both the cap and barrel. Beneath the decorative work, the barrel is in hand-turned, hand-polished black hard rubber. The overlays are available in rhodium and platinum-plated sterling, or vermeil (silver plated with gold to three microns) in yellow or pink gold.

Cap.

The cap features the same decorative work as the barrel and is also in black hard rubber. The overlay is available in silver, yellow gold vermeil, or pink gold vermeil. Clip. The plain clip incorporates a handy pressure system.

Nib.

The 18-karat gold nib stands out for its fitiely chased decorative work and the logo of the Vatican Museums-two stylized keys. Its air hole is an original half-moon shape. The pen is available with a medium nib only.

Filling system.

The pen takes a standard cartridge or converter. The blind end cap can be removed to access the converter or to fill the pen without removing the section joint.

Packaging

The pens sell in elegant velvet cases. The case is marked with the Vatican Museums logo and contains the warranty.
