Obwohl schon ab ca. 1850 das Negativverfahren entwickelt wurde und die Ambrotypie und ähnliche Verfahren zurückdrängte, wurden vor allem in Amerika noch bis zum Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts Ambrotypien gefertigt.

Ambrotypie, 6,5 x 7,5 cm nice and sharp picture with many details, unfortunatelly
some small scratches on the photo. The face of the man and the tablecloth are handcoloured. The embossed frame
is in excellent condition. The whole case is complete and in good condition. The left inner side has violet velvet
in it. The ambrotype is an early kind of photographie, used since about 1854. The picture is unique, the photographer could not make more dublicates of this. There is no negativ, only this positiv picture. The "film" was a glass plate who was sensitiv to light. In the developing prozess, the bright parts of the photo were fixed, the dark parts were gone. So the glassplate itself was transparent again in the dark parts of the photo. To bring back the contrast into the photo, the glasplates back was painted black. Since about 1850 it was possible to make negativs and many dublicates from one negativ. Till the end of the century photograpers made Ambrotypes, especialy in the USA. Any questions?
